Fractures of Acetabulum > Introduction

Fractures of the acetabulum

(hip socket) are among the most difficult fractures to treat. These fractures are classified as simple fractures when the innominate bone is broken in two major pieces, and complex fractures, when the bone is broken into many pieces. These fractures are usually associated with dislocation of the hip joint. The dislocation may either be central or anterior or posterior, depending upon the fracture pattern. To understand the fracture pattern one needs various x-rays and specialised C.T. scan with 3 dimensional reconstruction.

Here is one illustrative case of a yong man of 22 years who was operated for a very serious fracture of his left hip socket

X-Ray of Hip Joint after injury
Central Dislocation
X-Ray of Hip joint after injury
3-D C.T. scan showing central dislocation

Complex Fracture
X-Ray of Hip Joint after Surgery
3-D C.T. scan showing Complex fracture
X-Ray of Hip joint after Surgery showing normal restoration
