Hip Replacement after Proximal Femoral Corrective Osteotomy

Proximal (upper) femoral corrective osteotomy is a surgery carried out for one kind of fracture of upper end of femur. This surgery changes the shape of the bone permanently and hip replacement after this osteotomy places challenge to operating surgeon to restore the hip biomechanics

If you carefully look at the x-ray and compare right and left femur bone, you would realize that the left femur bone shape is altered. This is exactly what happens when the corrective osteotomy is performed. This patient has developed left hip joint arthritis and has come for surgery of total hip replacement for pain in his left hip.
