- Usually due
repetitive back abuse or sudden lifting of heavy weight.
Characterised
By

- Acute lower
back pain
- Stiff back
- Sciatica : shooting
pain from back to foot
- Numbness or
heaviness in one or both legs
- Weakness in
one or both legs
- Rarely, difficulty
in passing urine or acute paralysis
Diagnosis
By

Typical history,
examination findings, X-rays and MRI
Treatment
|
Complete bed rest
Local heat
Analgesics and
anti inflammatory medicines
Traction
Lumbar belt
Surgery in case
of neurological deficit or failure of non operative treatment.
