Tenosynovitis

- This lesser
known cause of thumb pain. But is one of the most common causes
- Affects 10
times as many women as men.
- It is usually
associated with over use either at work or at home. Also common during
pregnancy and after childbirth.
- 30-50 years
age group is commonly effected.
- Presentation:
Pain at the base of the thumb. Increases on pinching movement.
Treatment

Use a splint.
Non steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines.
Ultrasonic locally.
Steroid injection, effective only if started within 6 weeks of starting
of pain.
Surgery to free the thumb tendon from its constricting sheaths.
