- Pseudo fracture
due to osteomalacia.
- Commonly seen
in young women in childbearing age group due to inadequate calcium intake,
the calcium deficiency is compounded by prolonged breast feeding which
puts additional calcium demands on the mother.
- A typical patient
is a young woman in childbearing age, complains of feeling of tiredness,
difficulty in walking, difficulty in getting up after squatting.
- Patient walks
with a waddle, has tender long bones.
- X-rays show
diminished calcium content in bones, and in late cases, pseudo fractures
that may become total fractures, especially at pubic rami or at neck
of femur.
- Treatment consists
of adequate intake of calcium and vitamins.
