Also known as T or Y fractures of the elbow. These injuries require open reduction and internal fixation using principles of A.O. The internal fixation is carried out using 3.5 mm implants to reconstruct the articular congruity followed by pillar fixation, using plates to restore the correct axis of the elbow joint. These surgeries are performed through olecrenon osteotomy approach which gives wider view of the intra articular fractures and allows anatomic reduction of these complex injuries. Nerve injuries, especially median and ulnar nerves, post traumatic joint stiffness are some of the common complications or rather sequels. |
