- Affects
mainly young adults.
- May occur
when the person tries to turn in bed and the head and body do not turn
together.
- Associated
with severe neck, shoulder and arm pain.
- Diagnosis
is by MRI.

Treatment
in Acute Stage
|
Wear a collar
If pain increases on looking down, avoid using pillow.
If pain increases on looking up use a pillow.
Local heat / Gentle massage help in relieving pain.
Cervical
Spondylosis
|
Common cause of neck pain in middle age. Due to wear and tear changes
in the neck bones. Causes pain in neck, which may radiate to shoulder
and arm. May be associated with feeling of pins and needles in hand, weakness
or tiredness.
X-rays and MRI reveal the diagnosis.
To be differentiated from pain referred from cardiac conditions by stress
test.
Treatment is usually medical in form of pain relieving medicines, local
heat, collar and physiotherapy.
